ED Summoned Popular Bengali Actor Dev in Cattle Smuggling Case :
Popular Bengali actor Dev was questioned by ED (Directorate of Enforcement) in a cattle smuggling case on 21st February 2024. This Tuesday, Dipak Adhikary, also known as Dev and a two-term MP of Trinamool Congress, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate at their Delhi office in connection with a money laundering case.
Prior to his interrogation, Dipak Adhikary, also known as Dev, assured reporters of his full cooperation with the investigation, affirming his readiness to comply whenever summoned. Notably, Dev was previously questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a key witness in the ongoing cattle smuggling case.
The investigation agency issued a summons via email, requesting him to bring essential documents and appear at the Delhi office. The actor complied, arriving at 11 AM on February 21st, 2024, where he underwent questioning for over 8 hours regarding a cattle smuggling case. Dev asserted that he has complete faith on the agency and the ongoing probe, emphasizing that he has not committed any crime.
The CBI and the ED both the investigation agencies, are currently involved in probing the cattle smuggling case in West Bengal. The primary suspect Anubrata Mondal, who previously served as the district president of Trinamool Congress for Birbhum district, has been apprehended in connection with this case.
CBI has arrested one of the prime suspect, Enamul Haque, in this case, who is currently under custody and filled a chargesheet against him. Additionally, Dev was questioned by the CBI in February 2022 regarding this matter, during which he denied any financial transactions with Enamul and asserted that he does not know him.
However, Suvendu Adhikary, BJP MP and the leader of the opposition in Bengal, claimed that Dev received INR 5 crore from Enamul for making a film. The TMC party alleged that the centre using the central agencies as a political tool before the Loksabha Election.
Earlier this incident, Bengali superstar Dev initially announced his intention to step down from Parliament, but later reversed his decision after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He asserted that “politics will not leave me even if I want to leave politics.”
