BCCI Central Contract :
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced central contract list for men’s cricket team for 2023-2024. The start wicket keeper batsman Ishan Kishan and middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer were the biggest the omissions from the list. Their omission stems from their refusal to participate in domestic cricket following the BCCI’s directives, prompting the board to take decisive action to uphold discipline within the ranks.
In a noteworthy move, fifteen players have been added to Grade C, welcoming fresh faces such as Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, and Jitesh Sharma into the fold.
Ishan Kishan who came back to India from South Africa due to his personal reasons in last year December, extended his break and did consider to play for Jharkhand in Ranji Trophy. However, despite directives from the Cricket Board, the young cricketer opted out of domestic tournaments. While he was spotted training with Hardik Pandya in preparation for the upcoming IPL seasons, Kishan notably abstained from participating in the Ranji Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer who left out the team after second test match against England and made himself unavailable for Ranji Trophy due to his back injury. However, Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy, informed Board officials that Iyer was fit and had no fresh injury concerns. In response, Board Secretary Jay Shah issued a warning to cricketers, stating that non-participation in the Ranji Trophy would not be tolerated, and emphasized that the chief selector would be granted autonomy in handling such matters.
The BCCI announced that the athletes who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of 3 tests or 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the specified period will automatically be included in Grade C on a pro-rata basis. Here is the full contract list announced by BCCI for men’s cricket team for 2023-2024.
Grade A+ : Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah
Grade A : KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj
Grade B : Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Surya Kumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav
Grade C : Sanju Samson, Shardul Thakur, Tilak Verma, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Jitesh Sharma, Ravi Bisnoi, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Rajat Patidar, Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan.
