Personal life of Lal Krishna Advani:

Lal Krishna Advani, who served the nation as the 7th Deputy Prime Minister, was born on 8th November, 1927 in Karachi, British India. Kishanchand D. Advani was his father and his mother’s name was Gyani Devi. His family later settled in Mumbai, India during the partition time and he completed his graduation in Law from Government Law College, Mumbai. He married to Kamla Advani in 1965, and they have a son and a daughter. The name of his son is Jayanta Advani and Pratibha Advani is their daughter who is a television producer.

Journey of Lal Krishna Advani :

Lal Krihsna Advani served as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest period since the 1980s, and he was one of the co-founders of the party. At the age of 14, he joined the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and later became secretary of the Karachi unit in 1947. He became a member of the BJS (Bharatiya Jana Sangh) party in 1951 and later appointed as general secretary of the party in Rajasthan in 1957.

He was chosen as the leader of BJS for the Delhi unit in 1967 and elected as the chairman of the DMC (Delhi Metropolitan Council). He served as the chairman of the council from 1967-1970. Lal Krishna Advani became a member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time in 1970 for a six years tenure from Delhi, and he was selected as the president of the BJS party in 1973 at the Kanpur session of the party working committee meeting.

In 1980, Lal Krihsna Advani formed a new party, Bharatiya Janata Party, with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the first president of the party. Lal Krishna Advani was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the third time from Madhya Pradesh in 1982. Advani Ji became the political face of the Ayodhya dispute over Ram Janmabhoomi after becoming the President of BJP. Under Advani Ji, the BJP became the second-largest party in the parliament in 1991 general election and, as a consequence, he became the leader of the opposition after his winning from Gandinagar.

Advani started the iconic Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath, Gujarat in 1990, which concluded in Ayodhya. On 6 December 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished and Advani Ji was alleged to deliver a provocative statement prior to the demolition. However, the  CBI Special Court mentioned in the judgment that the demolition was not preplanned and that Advani Ji was not inciting them. In 1998, the BJP won the general election and the BJP led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) came to power with Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the prime minister. Lal Krishna Advani was elected to the Lok Sabha for the third time and became the union home minister.

In  2005, Lal Krishna Advani visited Karachi and described Mohammad Ali Jinnah as a secular leader. Due to over criticism for his statement, he was forced to resign as party president and later withdrew his resignation. He was replaced by Rajnath Singh in 2005 as the party president after he stepped down from the position. In 2009 general election, he was chosen as the prime ministerial candidate though BJP lost in the election to Congress and Advani became a member of Lok Sabha for the sixth time.

He is the man behind BJP’s success and will be honored with the Bharat Ratna and earlier he was honored by Padma Vibhushan in 2015. A Parliamentary career for over three decades and the Home Minister and later the Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet, the journey of this leader is a true inspiration for others. His significant contributions have left an indelible mark on Indian politics, showcasing resilience, leadership, and dedication to the nation.

The Prime Minister expressed his joy today while announcing that the government will honor Lal Krishna Advani for his enormous contribution to the development of India. He congratulated him and mentioned him as  “One of the most respected statesman of our times”.
