Mary Kom full name and Achievements : The female boxer Mary Kom made India proud by her skills and talent, today we will discuss about Mary Kom’s full name and achievements which made India proud at international level. Mary Kom was born in Kagathei village in Manipur state on 24th November 1982. Her full name is Mangte Chungneijung Mary Kom who is a boxer and former member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. Like other youngsters in Manipur, Mary Kom too got motivation from Dingko Singh who won a Gold medal in 1988 in Bangkok Asian games.
At the early stages of Kom’s training, her father was worried about boxing as he thought that the boxing might damage Kom’s face and Kom’s marriage planning would be damaged. However, Mary Kom started her training with her first coach K. Kosana Meitei from Imphal and later moved to Imphal Sports Academy where she took training from state coach M. Narjit Singh.
Achievements of Mary Kom at National and International Level: In 2000, after seeing Kom’s picture in the newspaper, her father started supporting her. Mary Kom won state boxing championship in that year and then started her practice to achieve her life goal. She won eighteen gold medals in her career and became the only women to win the world boxing championship six times. She is the only boxer to win eight world championship medals. She won gold in the Asian Games in 2014 and became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal in Asian games.
She was the only boxer from India who qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal. She has won a total of 23 medals at international level in the World Championship, Olympic, Asian Games, Women’s World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Women’s Championship etc.
National Awards won by Mary Kom: Mary Kom was awarded with Arjuna Award in 2003 and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 2009. She has also been awarded with Padma Shri in 2006, Padma Bhushan in 2013 and Padma Vibhushan in 2020. As per the media reports, Mary Kom announced her retirement from boxing.
However, she has clarified that this is a rumor, and she has not announced her retirement from boxing. We must say that she has inspired thousands of youngsters around the world with her achievements.
